La Turbiana è un vitigno dal raggio strettissimo: il suo regno è la fascia pianeggiante e collinare a sud del Lago di Garda, a cavallo tra la provincia di Brescia (Desenzano, Sirmione, Lonato, Pozzolengo) e quella di Verona (Peschiera del Garda). Qui i suoli sono argille moreniche profonde — depositate dal ghiacciaio che ha scavato il lago — ricche e compatte: trattengono l'acqua, danno corpo al vino e ne sostengono la tensione sapida, mentre la grande massa d'acqua del Garda smorza gli sbalzi di temperatura. Fuori da qui lo stesso vitigno cambia nome — Trebbiano di Soave nel Veronese, Verdicchio nelle Marche — e copre superfici ben più ampie.Turbiana has a very narrow range: its kingdom is the flat and gently hilly strip south of Lake Garda, straddling the province of Brescia (Desenzano, Sirmione, Lonato, Pozzolengo) and that of Verona (Peschiera del Garda). Here the soils are deep morainic clays — left by the glacier that carved the lake — rich and compact: they hold water, give the wine body and underpin its saline tension, while Garda's huge body of water softens temperature swings. Beyond this area the same grape changes name — Trebbiano di Soave in the Veronese, Verdicchio in the Marche — and covers far larger surfaces.

La freschezza e la sapidità del Lugana lo rendono un compagno di tavola versatile, soprattutto con la cucina del lago. Si abbina bene con il pesce d'acqua dolce — coregone, persico, luccio in salsa — e con i risotti mantecati alle erbe o agli asparagi. Tiene testa al fritto di pesce e alle fritture di verdure grazie alla sua spinta acida, e accompagna bene gli antipasti di salumi leggeri e i formaggi freschi. Le versioni Riserva, più strutturate, reggono anche un pollame in bianco o un primo più ricco.Lugana's freshness and salinity make it a versatile companion at the table, above all with lake cuisine. It pairs well with freshwater fish — whitefish, perch, pike in sauce — and with creamy risottos with herbs or asparagus. It stands up to fried fish and fried vegetables thanks to its acid drive, and goes nicely with platters of light cured meats and fresh cheeses. The more structured Riserva versions can even handle white-cooked poultry or a richer first course.
